Benefits, Hurdles of NGV Growth Outlined by DOE's Advisory Panel

Natural gas vehicles hold a great deal of potential as a means of helping the US move toward low-carbon transportation that is less dependent on oil, but government policies should be more technology neutral to encourage this, according to a panel which advises US Energy Secretary Steven Chu. In a report presented to Chu in Washington last, week, the National Petroleum Council said petroleum fuels remain the backbone of the US transportation system, but it also noted that natural gas vehicles, higher blends of biofuels and electric vehicles are gaining more interest.
