For the Record: Don't Tout Wind Farms For Mitigating Oil Imports

Lessening US dependence on "foreign" oil, and Middle Eastern supply in particular, has become a sort of mantra of the Obama administration. The issuance of five exploratory leases last month for the development of wind power on the Outer Continental Shelf oflshore New Jersey and Delaware is an excellent example. In announcing the leases, Interior Secretary Kenneth Salazar justifiably waxed poetic about how the move could jump start US offshore wind efforts, an area in which it lags woefully behind Europe.
