Judge Delays BLM Fracking Rules So DOI Can Prepare for Defense

Department of Interior rules on hydraulic fracturing will be delayed at least through the end of August, after a judge gave the federal government more time to present a key part of its defense of those rules in ongoing litigation (NGWJun.29'15). The agency finalized regulations for fracking on federal and Indian lands earlier this year, but a lawsuit brought by several states and industry associations has so far stymied implementation. In June, a judge in the case before the US District court in Wyoming blocked the rules from going into effect.
