A regulatory document that could prepare the way for seismic testing in the US eastern seaboard is overdue by nearly a year—a fact that has sparked controversy among a bipartisan group of lawmakers and oil and gas industry representatives. The Interior Department began an environmental impact statement for possible seismic shoots in federal waters of the Atlantic in April 2010. It said it should be done with a final version of the document in April 2012, but to date it hasn't been released.
