Increased use of natural gas in the power generation and industrial sectors could add another 11 billion cubic feet per day of incremental US gas demand by 2O20, according to Simmons & Co. analyst Pearce Hammond. Hammond shared his bullish long-term demand scenario at the Platts' Oil and Gas Shale Developer conference in Houston in June. Simmons sees US gas demand averaging about 67 Bcf/d this year and rising 16% by 2O20. The bulk of this demand growth, 9 Bcf/d, is expected to come from the power generation sector as overall US electricity demand grows and a number of coal-fired power plants are retired in coming years.
