Natural gas supplies anticipated from the giant, but fledging Marcellus Shale gas formation of Appalachia will be a force to be reckoned with in the US gas market in the next few years. Steadily increasing Marcellus production volumes are expected to place downward pressure on prices in the Northeast, alter gas flow patterns across many parts of the US pipeline grid and in turn, impose infrastructure demands that may prove too much for the marketplace to handle.
