Duke Renewables Buy Boosts Texas Wind to 1.2 GW

In what might be called one of the sweeter energy deals of the past several weeks, Duke Energy Renewables (DER) has acquired a 50% stake in a wind farm near Lamesa, Texas, that will supply power to a candy manufacturer. Under the terms of the deal, DER bought a stake in Mes-quite Creek Wind, a 211-megawatt wind power project, through its joint venture partnership with Sumitomo Corp. of Americas. The deal boosts DER's wind capacity in the Lone Star State to more than 1.2 gigawatts. The company now owns 17 wind farms and 27 solar farms in 12 states.
