Continued development of the Marcellus and Utica shales will force a major revision in the US natural gas flow directions as supply movements reverse from south-to-north to north-to-south and the US Southeast becomes a major market region after decades as a supply area (NGW Oct.15'12). This was the conclusion of a new study by Bentek Energy, the natural gas and oil analytics unit of Platts. Pipelines that have for decades moved gas from the Southwest and Gulf of Mexico will have to reverse their flow and carry production in the opposite direction, said Tony Scott, manager of oil and consulting services for Bentek.
