Environmental Study Debunks BC's Carbon Claims for LNG

A new report from an Ottawa-based think tank pokes a giant hole in a claim by the British Columbia government that the creation of a LNG export industry in Canada's Pacific province would reduce carbon emissions in all Asian countries to which Canadian gas gets exported. Written by analysts at the CD Howe Institute, the report says that while LNG exports could reduce carbon emissions in countries like China and India, both of which burn a lot of coal, the introduction of Canadian LNG would actually raise carbon emissions in the majority of other potential markets. The authors, James Coleman and Sarah Jordaan, say it is "far from certain" that Canadian LNG exports would reduce carbon emissions worldwide.
