W.Virginia Renewables Lag, Coal Still Dominates

More than most states, West Virginia appears ready to struggle meeting new federal standards mandating it cut carbon dioxide emissions 20% by 2030. Nestled in the coal-rich Appalachian region, the state is not only the No. 2 coal-producer in the US, but 95% of its electricity is generated by coal, with natural gas, hydroelectric, solar, wind and bio-mass generation accounting for the remainder, according to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA).
