North Carolina Adopts Framework For Drilling, Hydraulic Fracturing

North Carolina's state legislature has enacted legislation explicitly allowing oil and gas firms to use horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing to tap the state's largely unexplored hydrocarbon resources. It did so by overriding the governor's earlier veto of the bill. The southeastern US state is not typically considered part of the oil patch, and up until now, its laws did not address modern oil and gas industry practices such as hydraulic fracturing, often referred to simply as "fracking."
