More Peaking Gas Secured for New England

Up to 1 billion cubic feet of natural gas will be available for the upcoming 2014-15 winter demand season in New England thanks to a deal between GDZ Suez Gas NA and Gaz Metro LNG of Montreal. Under the terms of the deal, GDF Suez Gas has committed to buy 475 million cubic feet of natural gas over a five-month period starting in July, with the option to buy an additional 500 MMcf. LNG tanker trucks will deliver the gas to New England-based gas utilities, which generally buy LNG during the summer and Ml to fill above-ground LNG storage tanks. The regasified LNG is used to meet winter peaking demand during the 20 to 50 days when pipeline-imported supply alone falls short.
