Eastern Canadian Provinces Differ on Fracking

While its neighbor province of Quebec maintains its moratorium on hydraulic fracturing to unlock its considerable shale gas assets, New Brunswick is hoping to unlock its shale gas resources to kickstart its sputtering economy. To this end, the New Brunswick government recently released dozens of new regulations to provide parameters for shale gas developments among the 97 new rules governing oil and gas exploration in the province. The goal is to strike a balance between environmental protection and economic development.
