Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies are most often discussed as a way of curbing greenhouse gas emissions from coal-fired power plants, but CCS is starting to gain more traction as a way of lowering the carbon footprint of oil and gas operations as well. CCS demonstration projects are getting under way at several natural gas processing facilities and oil sands upgraders globally, in addition to power plants and energy-intensive factories. Additionally, interest continues to grow for using carbon dioxide (C02) captured with CCS technology in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) upstream operations.
