摘要

The questions about possible links between drilling, waste water disposal and hydraulic fracturing and earthquakes has just gotten a little murkier — thanks to a published report that adds a new player. Published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, a new study suggests that — in some instances — the link between earthquake swarms in Texas may be linked to companies pumping carbon dioxide into deep formations. C02 is routinely pumped into older reservoirs as part of enhanced oil recovery operations and also pumped underground for storing the greenhouse gas.
