Appalachia Gas Production Slips In May Despite Efficient Rigs

The Marcellus and Utica Shales have accounted for 85% of US gas production growth since the start of 2012, and the rig count drop in the past year is only now beginning to have an effect on that growth, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration. "Collectively, shale gas production from the Marcellus and Utica regions has increased by 12.6 Bcf/d from January 2012 to June 2015, making these regions the driving force behind overall US natural gas production growth," EIA analysts John Krohn and Grant Nulle wrote in a Jul. 28 report.
