Louisiana Reports OCS Rig Count At 40, High Since Pre-Moratorium

The number of rigs operating in the federal Outer Continental Shelf waters off the Louisiana coast hit 40 on Mar. 23 — the first time it has gone that high since the week before the federal moratorium ordered in May 2010 after the Macondo disaster. Louisiana Department of Natural Resources Secretary Scott Angelle said the rig count is up 17 from the 23 active rigs that were operating in the area at the same time last year - an increase of 74%.
