Noaa Storm Watchers Downgrading Forecast as Danny Makes Approach

Even as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (Noaa) stood by its forecast for a below normal Atlantic hurricane season last week, Hurricane Danny spun up east of the Windward Islands. Churning out in the mid-Atlantic with top sustained winds of 115 mph, Hurricane Danny was not enough to cause Noaa to reverse course on its forecast. Hurricane Danny became a Category 3 storm Friday after its winds topped 100 mph. It is the first hurricane of the season with the previous three named storms never reaching that status.
