IHS: Unconventional Development Boosts Economic, Energy Outlook

Capital spending on unconventional oil and gas activities is expected to reach $5.1 trillion in the US between 2012 and 2035 with more than half going to natural gas production, according to a recent report from consultancy IHS. According to the report, unconventional development - which includes shale, tight gas and coalbed methane - currently makes up 65% of all natural gas output in the US. This is expected to grow to almost 75% by the end of the decade as domestic production rises from 65 billion cubic feet per day to nearly 80 Bcf/d.
