North Dakota Well Ahead of Gas Capture Goals to Reduce Flaring

With Bakken producers drilling only in the core regions of the play and the ongoing development of natural gas pipeline infrastructure, North Dakota's gas capture continues to increase, already hitting the goal set for 2020. Data from the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) show statewide Bakken gas capture rose to 92% during April, with the daily volume of gas flared from March to April down 25.6 million cubic feet per day. North Dakota was flaring at a historically high 36% of its gas capture in 2011, compared to the 9.2% reported in April.
