US Regulators Launch Voluntary Effort to Clamp Down on Methane

The utility responsible for the largest natural gas leak in US history is one of 41 companies pledging to join a new voluntary initiative as US federal regulators redouble their efforts to reduce methane emissions in the oil and gas sector. Southern California Gas is on board with a partnership called the Natural Gas Star Methane Challenge Program. Representatives from the founding companies were introduced a few weeks ago at a Washington conference headlined by US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy. The Global Methane Initiative and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition co-sponsored the forum.
