McClendon's American Energy Sells Gulfport Core Ohio Utica Assets

Gulfport Energy further cemented its position as a top player in the burgeoning Utica Shale last week after agreeing to purchase 35,325 net acres in the gas play from American Energy-Utica in a pair of deals valued at $407 million. When combined with a pending merger with Paloma Energy III, the three deals will together increase the company's leasehold in the Utica to 243,000 net acres. The Utica Shale, which has its core in eastern Ohio, is the second fastest-growing shale gas play in the US after the MarceUus Shale (NGW Jun.8'15).
