Neuroselective electrical stimulation of bladder function: Critical parameters.

The publication by van Meel et al. incorrectly characterizes their electrodiagnostic evaluation of mucosal sensory function as being neuroselective for C-fibers. Their study uses a rapidly depolarizing waveform of electrical stimulus (1 msec, rectangular) that primarily excites larger diameter nerve fibers in rats and humans and these parameters and others contribute to the reason it is not C fiber neuroselective. Their findings are otherwise valid. The role of larger diameter sensory nerve fibers in urinary mucosa is often overlooked.
