Gazprom Seeks JV With CNPC To Sell Gas In China

Gazprom has targeted gaining direct access to Chinese consumers as a compromise to end years of price negotiations with China on natural gas supplies. The Russian state company is interested in forming a joint venture with state China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) to sell gas inside China, as well as signing a contract to supply gas to CNPC, Stanislav Tsygankov, head of Gazprom's department for international operations, told the company's corporate magazine. He says such a venture could help the companies "to bring closer their positions on issues of gas prices for China."
