Russian state Zarubezhneft has announced two major successes offshore Vietnam in the last week: a crude oil discovery and victory in a tender for a new gas block. But the close relations between Moscow and Hanoi — dating back to 1950 — could be put to the test following a new flare-up in a long-running territorial dispute between Vietnam and China, into which Russia’s Gazprom has reluctantly been drawn.
