Poland, Ukraine Intensify Pressure on Gazprom

Poland's PGNIG has filed a complaint in a European court in a bid to prevent Russia's Gazprom from receiving large allocations in the Opal pipeline starting in January, while a Ukrainian court has doubled the size of the compensation it is seeking from Gazprom for alleged abuses on the country's gas transmission system. Although unrelated, the cases show that, on the one hand, Warsaw and Kiev intend to pile on the legal challenges for Gazprom, while on the other, proceed with normal business operations with the Russian gas corporation.
