Ceradyne profit tumbles in Q1 2012, hit by sharp decline in solar photovoltaic crucible shipments

Ceradyne saw a near wipe-out of its net income with a fall of 84% to 3.8 million US dollars in the first quarter (Q1) of 2012 as the company was hit by a sharp decline in solar photovoltaic (PV) crucible shipments in a tough global solar PV market. Sales fell 29% to 106.3 million US dollars as new orders for the three months ended 31 March 2012 tumbled 65% to 80.8 million US dollars.
