Lukoil Saudi Foray Stranded in Empty Quarter

The economics of Lukoil's project in Saudi Arabia remain doubtful be- cause the company will have to sell gas it discovered in the Gulf country on the domestic market at a price of just $21/Mcm, according to sources. The issue was discussed last week in Moscow by Lukoil President Vagit Alekperov and the head of Saudi Aramco, Khalid al-Falih. Aramco is partnering Lukoil in the Luksar joint venture — in which the Russian company holds 80% — ex- ploring Area A of the Rub al-Khali (Empty Quarter) desert.
