Rising shipments of Russia’s Espo crude oil blend from the Pacific port of Kozmino, the endpoint of the East Siberia–Pacific Ocean (Espo) pipeline, and the start of test deliveries to China via a spur from the Espo line were the main drivers behind the growth of Russian crude oil exports last month. Exports to countries outside the former Soviet Union (FSU) totaled 18.92 million metric tons (4.47 million b/d) in December, up 3.7% on the year (p10). Another 558,262 b/d was sent to Kazakhstan, Belarus and Ukraine, down 20% from the 704,886 b/d sent to neighboring states in December 2009.
