Russian Firms to Fund Strategic Exploration

Russia wants oil firms to finance fur- ther exploration of fields deemed "strategic" under recent legislation, but it is unclear whether the compa- nies would receive compensation if development licenses were eventually awarded to a competitor. According to Anatoly Ledovskikh, the head of Russian subsoil agency Rosnedra, Rosneft, Lukoil and Surgutneftegas have all agreed to fund exploration of three strategic oil fields.
