Moscow expects next year to hear a decision on its appeal against a 2014 ruling that obliges Russia to pay $50 billion to former shareholders of the now-defunct Yukos oil firm for expropriating the assets of the country’s once largest crude oil producer. A decision on the appeal is expected to be announced in April 2016, lawyers say. First hearings are expected to be held in February. Russia filed three motions earlier this year against the decision by the arbitration tribunal in The Hague and so far hasn’t started paying anything to former Yukos shareholders. Fines for delaying payments should total almost $900 million this year, analysts calculate.
