Secretive Russian oil major Surgutneftegas saw profits rise by 31% year-on-year to 62.51 billion rubles ($2.16 billion) in the second quarter thanks to higher oil prices. Russia's fourth-largest crude pro- ducer reported first-half net income of 77.78 billion rubles under Russian accounting standards, hav- ing posted a profit of 15.27 billion rubles for the first quarter. Second- quarter revenues came in at 188.24 billion rubles, up 35% from year- earlier levels (NC Aug.5'10).
