摘要

Researchers working in Germany, Japan and Mexico say more homogenous and finer-grained structures can be obtained in high-speed steel through high-energy milling and spark plasma sintering… High-speed steel is superior tool steel with high wear resistance properties at high temperature. Its main applications are in cutting tools and dies. In conventional HSS the dispersion of carbides is usually heterogeneous and a promising area for improvement of its properties by PM. If the carbides can be distributed more finely and homogeneously, where powder metallurgy can be used to control such microstructure better mechanical properties and workability can be expected. Further, the powder metallurgy route enables the material to be higher alloyed, with improved mechanical properties.
