Acting like NCSL International

By now, I'm sure, you've found out about our name change from the National Conference of Standards Laboratories to NCSL International. At our recent annual Conference in Toronto, we has our first opportunity to act like an International organization-and we did it through the actions of the ANSI/NCSL Writing Committee.The ANSI/NCSL Writing committee met during the Conference to decide what to do with ANSI.NCSL Z540-1-1994. ANSI (American National Standards Institute) had granted us an extension of the normal five-year review cycle so that the committee could evaluate Z540-1-1994 in the light of the December, 1999 release of ISO/IEC 17025. The committee took action to adopt ISO/IEC 17025 jointly with ASQ (American Society for Quality) and ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) as a U.S National Standard. Additionally. The committee voted to keep Z540-1-1994 active by reaffirming the current version and beginning the review and update process to achieve harmonization with ISO/IEC 17025.
