Russia Trumpets New Oil Discovery

Russia has lauded two new acreages discovered in the Orenburg region, buoying the industry’s long-term outlook at a time when good news seems hard to come by. Natural Resources Minister Sergei Donskoi told journalists on Nov. 11 that the new acreages were made by the little-known Sladkovsko-Zarechnoye company. The finds include the Kushinskoye field, harboring recoverable reserves of 20 million metric tons (146.6 million bbl), with estimated reserves under Russia’s C1+C2 classification standing at over 40 million tons. The second field, Yasnopolyanskoye, is home to some 11.2 million tons of reserves under C1+C2 classification.
