EUROMET REPORT

As reported in the July issue, this year's EUROMET General Assembly took the first steps towards the creation of a legal entity to deliver the European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP), to be launched in association with the European Commission's 7th Framework Programme (FP7). The budget for FP7 has been fixed at 54.5 billion euros (over 7 years), well below the requested budget in the Commission's proposal of around 73 billion euros but still a very substantial increase over FP6. The Commission has been reviewing how to deal with the reduction, while EUROMET members have been working very closely with the Commission, national Ministries, the European Parliament and other stakeholders to ensure they understand the value of supporting metrology R&D.
