BIPM REPORT

As I write, we are in the process of preparing our future workplan for 2009 to 2012. This will be presented to the annual meeting of NMI Directors and to the International Committee for Weights and Measures in October 2006. The key points are: That we shall consolidate our recent expansion into chemical metrology and will carefully align our future work to international issues and drivers such as climate change and air quality issues. As the priorities for biosciences are not yet clear, we plan an international collaborative study of the main issues as preparation for the next BIPM workplan due to start in 2013. A catch-up in physical metrology where previous budgetary settlements have led to insufficient resources to deliver a previously agreed workplan. Specifically we propose to replace a number of staff who have left but whose posts were not filled, in mass and time metrology.
