Binary TiAl_3 and Ll_2-phases modified with chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt and copper are tested to investigate the first stage of their oxidation resistance at high temperatures. The compounds TiAl_3 and Ti_(25)Cr_8Al_(67) exhibit an excellent oxidation resistance up to 1450 K. Ti_(25)Cu_8Al_(67) and Ti_(25)Co_8Al_(67) demonstrate a lower oxidation resistance that raises serious concerns regarding their future high temperature applications.
