Italian producers of merchant bars forced to drop prices

Despite all the efforts of Italian merchant bar producers to resist the downward trend, the decrease in scrap prices (EUR 20-30/t m-o-m)has impacted both demand and finished product prices. Market participants inform that the prices for local material to domesticbuyers have gone down by EUR 20/t compared to mid-September, while those to foreign destinations have fallen byEUR 10-30/t. The demand from end-users remains extremely weak and restocking amid optimally low stocks is no option.
