Taiwan: wire rod prices rise despite falling offers of billet and rebar

Prices are moving in different directions in the Taiwanese longs market. Pricesfor square billet and rebar continue to decrease amid extremely low demand,high stocks and falling prices for local scrap (minus $15-30/t in two weeks).Thus, domestic quotations of the semis and rebar have dipped in two weeks by$16/t at the exchange rate $1 = TWD 31.999 (TWD 500/t) and $9-22/t(TWD 300-700/t), but the actual drops in the dollar terms have been $10/t and$3-15/t respectively due to currency fluctuations. However, suppliers of rebarare ready to discount about $10-30/t while closing deals, and a few bookingshave been made at $547/t (TWD 17,500/t) exw.
