The attempts of some Turkish longs exporters to lift prices have beenunsuccessful. Even last week, most sellers were sceptical about chances thatbuyers accept the increase amid decreasing prices for scrap and semis. As aresult, the attempts to create an artificial burst of demand in the Mediterraneanregion turned to be a failure because other regional suppliers did not supportthe move. As a result, prices for construction steel have dropped in a weekby $15-20/t and steel traders expect further cuts next week.
