In spite of rising labor and material costs, new manufacturing techniques and modernized machining methods are letting manufacturers produce higher-quality rolformed metal. Software is assisting them do this. "The contractor can now use software to the customer," says Bruce Pearson, roll form manager at Zimmerman Metals Inc. in Denver. "Similarly, machines with computer controls allow the contractor to download cut lists or job orders, and produce the panels without measuring or a written list. The new controls also can keep track of production, waste and daily footage which will give the owner better control of his costs and profits."
