In 1978, the Petrat family, consisting of Willard F., Gregory, Willard G. and Jessie, founded a small steel building erection company. It was based in a trailer in Sarasota, FL. After constructing buildings for a few years, the family thought it could produce a more erector-friendly metal building system that was attractive and cost effective. These plans came to fruition in 1982 when the company, now known as Trident Building Systems, began custom fabricating metal building systems. The company found success in manufacturing and became incorporated in 1986. As the company grew, so did the family involvement. The first generation of Petrats has given way to the second-generation leaders. These include: Carl Petrat, president; Cindy Petrat Hayden, secretary/treasurer; Willard G. Petrat, vice president; and the third generation Petrat, Jennie, marketing assistant.
