Influence of Lignite Fly Ash and Gypsum as Sources of Sulphur on Yield and Quality of Radish

A field experiment was conducted during 2006-2007 at Sivapuri village, Chidambaram Taluk, Tamil Nadu to investigate the influence of lignite fly ash (LFA) and gypsum with radish cv. Pusa Chetki as a test crop. The experimental soil was clay loam in nature. The treatments consisted of application of gypsum and lignite fly ash alone or in different combinations. The treatments included were T_1-Control, T_2-75 kg S ha~(-1) through LFA, T_3-75 kg S ha~(-1) through gypsum, T_4- 37.5 kg S ha~(-1) throughLFA +37.5 kg S ha~(-1) through gypsum, T_5- 100 kg S ha~(-1) through LEA, T_6- 100 kg S ha~(-1) through gypsum, T_7, 50 kg S ha~(-1) through LFA +50 kg S ha~(-1) through gypsum, T_8-125 kg S ha~(-1) through LFA, T_9-125 kg S ha~(-1) through gypsum and T_(10)- 62.5 kg S ha~(-1) through LF A + 62.5 kg S ha~(-1) through gypsum. The recommended dose of fertilizer was applied uniformly to all the plots. The results revealed that the combined application of 62.5 kg S ha~(-1) through LFA + 62.5 kg S ha~(-1) through gypsum to supply totally 125 kg S ha~(-1) significantly influenced the yield (23.75 t ha~(-1)) and quality. The treatments with application of 125 kg S ha~(-1) through gypsum and 50 kg S ha~(-1) through LFA +50 kg S ha~(-1) through gypsum were next in order and were comparable to application of 62.5 kg S ha~(-1) through LF A + 62.5 kg S ha~(-1) through gypsum.
