Basal Stem Rot of Coconut - Isolation, Pathogenicity and Management

Basal stem rot or Ganoderma Wilt disease caused by Ganoderma lucidum is widespread in coconut plantations in Karnataka causing often serious damage. The fungus could be isolated from freshly affected stem piece / root / sporophores using Waksman's agar medium. Diseased symptoms appeared within 9-11 months from the time of inoculation. The fungus could be re-isolated from the affected portions, thereby proving pathogenicity of Ganoderma lucidum in coconut.
