INDIAN Mustard (Brassicajuncea (Linn.) Czem. and Coss.) belonging to the family Craciferae and genus Bmssica is one of the important oil seed crops. The crop is grown both in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Rapeseed-mustard contributesto 32 per cent of total oil seed production in the country. Mustard yields the most important edible oil, which is the main cooking medium in Northern India and cannot be easily replaced by any other edible oil. The major constraints in growing mustard are white rust (Albugo Candida (Pers.) Kuntze), downy mildew (Peronospora parasitica (Pers.) (de Bary) and Alternaria blight (Alternaria brassicicola (Schw.) Wiltshire) diseases, which play a prominent role in reducing the yield of mustard. Hence an attempt was made to estimate the loss due to these diseases.
