摘要

Phatorhabdus luminescens is a symbiotic bacterium associated with Heterorhabditis indica. This bacterium kills a variety of insect groups when infested orally. Therefore, there is a scope for using this bacterium as a biocontrol agent for insect pestmanagement. Galleria - trap placed over 150 locations in five different agro climatic zones recorded 5.33 per cent nematode recovery. The bacterium was isolated by streaking the heamolymph of the dead larva of Galleria on nutrient agar plate. A total ofeight bacterial isolates were isolated, purified and characterised. Morphologically, isolates were gram negative, rod, motile and further distinguished into primary and secondary forms. Bochemical characterisation confirmed that all the isolates were positive for catalase, indole production, citrate utilisation, methyl red and carbohydrate fermentation tests and negative for hydrolysis of starch, gelatine and urea and Voges-Proskauer test.
