Readers Preferences for Various Aspects of Kannada Farm Publications in Relation to Relevance and Usefulness of Agriculture Reportings

Agriculture reportings namely success stories, statistics and such other analysis in the reporting are very much important for spread of agriculture technologies. If this transfer of technologies does not reach to the larger group of farming community, they not only affect the workers who depend on them for their bread and butter but also affect the growth and development of agriculture, thereby hindering the national development. The spread of technologies especially through farm publications are equally important means of providing localized and specific details to the lower group of rural community. Thus farm publications are important in terms of informing, guiding and entertaining the audience (Kamath, 1969). Getting response from the readers on these publications could help in getting valuable information on the acceptance of the periodicals, their views, preferences and reactions as well as suggestions for improvement. The print medium is one of the most important media for disseminating agriculture technologies to the farmers (AshokhamandVijayaragavan, 1997). In this regard, an attempt was made to study the readers preferences of Kannada farm publications in relation to the relevance and usefulness factors towards various aspects of agriculture reportings.
