Study the effect of promising varieties and methods of cultivation on growth, seed yield and quality parameters in rice (Oryza sativa L.).

摘要

An experiment was conducted to find out the high yielding varieties and less water consumption method of cultivation during kharif 2006 with ten treatment combinations viz., five varieties (V1: Vikas, V2: Doddabyranellu, V3: Thanu, V4: Rasi, V5: BPT-5204) and two methods of production (P1: Aerobic P2: SRI) were laid out in factorial randomized design with three replications. The result revealed that the plant height at harvest, number of tillers per hill, number of productive tillers per hill and panicle length, seed recovery, seed yield per plant and seed yield per hectare were maximum (123.3 cm, 28.2, 25.2, 23.6 cm, 95.0%, 55.0 g and 55.7 q/ha, respectively) in variety Doddabyranellu and noticed minimum (69.9 cm, 17.7, 15.8, 14.5 cm, 88.3%, 34.9 g and 32.5 q/ha, respectively) in BPT-5204. While, seed germination was recorded maximum (96.3%) in variety Rasi and minimum (95.0%) was in BPT-5204 and Thanu. Among the method of cultivation, significantly considerable amount of variability in plant height (91.5 cm), number of tillers per hill (26.1), number of productive tillers per hill (24.0), panicle length (22.0 cm) and number of seeds per panicle (197) was exhibited by SRI method of production as compared to aerobic method of cultivation. The seed yield per plant (51.4 g) and seed yield per hectare (47.4 q) was significantly higher in SRI method as compared to aerobic method. The quality parameters viz., germination (96.7%), seedling length (20.6 cm), vigour index-I (1994), seedling dry weight (6.3 mg), vigour index-II (602) and total soluble protein (6.9%) registered significantly superior in aerobic method, while, hundred-seed weight was more (2.1 g) in SRI method. The study could be concluded that the Doddabyranellu variety cultivated under SRI method would be the better for harvest of higher seed yield and quality.
