Influence of seasons and maturity stages on seed yield and quality in marigold cv. Pusa Narangi.

In the present study two field experiments were carried out during 2009-10 to study the effect of sowing seasons and maturity stages on seed yield and quality in marigold. The results revealed that significantly tallest plants (90.80 cm), more number of primary branches (11), number of flowers per plant (32), number of seeds per plant (165), seed yield per plant (14.51 g) and test weight (2.63 g) were recorded during kharif season. Whereas, maximum flower size (6.55 cm), highest germination (88.40%), seedling length (12.46 cm), seedling dry weight (0.994 mg), vigour index I (1102) and vigour index II (88) were recorded in rabi season. In the second experiment, the flowers harvested at 120 and 125 DAT recorded better seed quality parameters viz., germination (81.60 and 83.2%), 1000-seed weight (2.87 and 2.90 g), seedling length (12.20 and 11.95 cm), seedling dry weight (1.023 and 1.007 mg), vigour index I (995 and 994) and vigour index II (83 and 84) compared to earlier and later stages.
